Very bulky parsley

I have had this parsley for nearly two years now, it's gone very bulky, yet it hasn't set seed or anything. I thought they were biennial? The leaves are rather tough now, even the new growth in the centre are bit rubbery. Is there any way to rejuvenate it, or should I just chuck it?

Absolutely agree with Philippa, I don’t bother sowing parsley seeds anymore, a pot from Morrison will give you at least 10 plants, they soon grow big in the garden, mine lasted over winter so did two seasons.  Still got some in the freezer from last year.

It is possible that what you have is Hamburg Parsley, it is usually grown as an annual but I guess it might survive in the right conditions. There are several varieties of parsley in the petroselinum group but they are all biennial as far as I know so yours will be well past its best as a culinary herb.

If it is Hamburg Parsley it is grown for its root (petroselinum crispum var. tuberosum) but it could equally be Flat leaved parsley (petroselinum sativum) reaching the end of its life.

Either way @philippasmith2 is right about starting again I'm afraid  :)

  • Thank you all.  :) I guess it's bye bye parsley then. Pity, I am going to miss it. :p
