Querie on compost

Can anyone help ....I have chickens and I here chicken poop is best compost... and I’ve tried to research about using it but all discussions lead to having to compost it ....as I live in countryside in Spain compost heaps are not really safe as high temperatures etc there have been instances of fires occurring ....I know I cannot use it directly but if I stored it and it dried in the heat for a while could I then use it on vegetable patch....as I did notice you can buy chicken pellets which I presume is just dried poop.... any help would be appreciated as are soil in these parts is so so bad many thanks

Compost heaps tend to get hot when they're piled or stacked and the contents in the middle heat up. I would have thought you'd be fine drying the chicken poop by spreading it out in trays and maybe just keeping it a couple of inches deep.

I agree that chicken pellets are probably just dried poop. It's quite potent stuff so you scatter it on as a feed rather than layering it on the soil.

Your poor soil needs bulky organic matter. Any farmers or stables nearby who could let you have well rotted manure?

  • Thanks for reply ....I’ve got local goat farmers which we have used and we also buy substrate in and hopefully got a soil delivery soon as are ground is more like crushed rock.... just wanted to make use of something we had ... I’ve had some chicken poop in a plastic bin for some months and it’s bone dry and like rock so was going to crush it down and just add it llike a scattering and dig in then it will slowly help when irrigation waters it in.....
  • Thank you yes just don’t want to waste it if it’s there ....and it’s got some benefits
