Dividing canna and astilbe

***Help please***I have just bought a Canna and an Astilbe, I want to divide each plant to put in two separate planters, can I do this now or do I leave in the pots and divide in the autumn? Many thanks folks 👍

    I'd split the canna over the winter whilst dormant. I'd split the astilbe now, OR winter. whichever suits you.

    Thankyou very much, do you know if I have to dig up the canna every year and store or can I leave in the planter?

    Are they actually big enough to split?

    It'll depend on your climate and temps as to overwintering the canna, or leaving it   outside.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Yes they are big enough, I'm on south coast, Dorset 😉

    They might be ok overwintered in the containers then  :)
    You can always have fleece etc handy for protection, if the containers are too big to shift unndercover. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
