Flax. Am I making a mistake?

I've been letting it seed freely around the garden.
Have I been seduced by a pretty blue flower?
There's still time to dispose of most of the seed heads if necessary, but they're quite attractive too.

OH used to grow fields of it, it looks gorgeous in huge fields, it’s probably easy to pull out if you don’t want it.

    Linum usitatissimum..common name Flax.
To see whole field of it is just wonderful.
    Love it.

Just bought a packet of Scarlet Flax after seeing it in my local council's "wild flower" meadow planting scheme, where it looked superb mixed in with, amongst others, cornflower, poppies, chamomile, and a few other non wild plants with similar growing habits.

B3...it is indeed. I didn't know such a flax colour existed until I saw it growing in the local council's planting scheme and then making a few enquiries on the forum as to what it was. I also ordered a vivid sky blue variety at the same time.
  • If it was this year, it might have been me with the red flax, I posted the photo below earlier in the year :) . Beautiful plant and not overly common.

Plus, now that I've successfully identified and grown a plant correctly that other people like, I feel like a professional horticulturalist. Next stop Chelsea!

@strelitzia32...is that an informal/wild planting scheme you've got going on there...I noticed a bit of clover...because that is how I intend to use the flax (or at least try).
