Apple Tree (Scrumptious)

I have moved my apple scrumptious into a larger planter and would like to plant something around the base. I thought chives or some other edible plant but don't want it to interfere with the apple flavour. Any suggestions?

    I would suggest not planting anything. Your tree will need all the water and nutrition you put into the planter and won't appreciate any competition.

    I'd either mulch the top or put something very shallow rooting, like wild strawberries in there
