Depends on how warm the spring is but late April- May if mild May -June in a "normal " year if there's such a thing these days. Coding moths , & winter moths are entirely different. Winter moth females are wingless so they crawl up the trunk that is how the grease bands work.

Thanks for that Allotment Boy. I've just applied a grease band and bought a pheromone trap. Hope to enjoy ALL the pears next year!

I melted some vaseline and soaked a j-cloth in it, and wrapped it around the trunk - will that work to stop ants climbing up and farming cherry blackflies?

Someone I know tried doing that with a fruit tree and found that the tree died above the Vaseline.
