I would just add maybe concentrate next year on less vegetables as they are time consuming to care for and you seem to have your hands full. What about some miniature fruit trees and maybe some big pots with lettuce, cherry tomatoes and strawberries? Baby carrots are an easy option in a pot as are radishes?
I have an allotment and in the past I have half killed myself growing stuff that I then realised I didn’t really want. Now I stick to fruit bushes and trees, courgettes and rhubarb, tomatoes in the greenhouse and lots of cut flowers plus a little water feature and bee friendly area. All stuff i actually love and lots less work.
    Best of luck!
Yes couldn't agree more! Both times it was a gift - a child allotment but this year it was discontinued and replaced with a much larger gourmet set that requires a lot more maintenance. I'm hoping we won't be getting the same again so would be able to choose ourselves what to plant. After the last two years I think I've now got a good idea of what's easy to grow. Found tomato, lettuce, spinach, beetroot, carrot, courgettes, beans and strawberries have been fairly easy. It's things like all types of peas (so easy to get mildew), aubergines, peppers, pumpkins and cavolo nero I would probably give a miss as either have been loads of work, require loads of space and/or got no fruit on them at all. Still to decide how I feel about cucumbers, easy maintenance so far but yet to get any fruit. So yes next year I will limit it to about 5-6 easy types and take it easy. Not tried fruit bushes but might do some research on that

As you have small children you may be interested in pursuing some of the info and links on this page from the RHS site - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=682

Thank you Obelixx, we try and get them involved and they enjoy sprinkling coffee grounds to deter slags, watering, picking the vegetables and hand pollinating. But will see if there are any other things we can get them involved in 😊

I say they, my 6 year old certainly enjoys it. My 1 year old was only interested in picking strawberries so he could eat them ;) My 4 year old helps out a bit but isn't as interested as my 6 year old!
