I'm stumped!!

Hello, I wonder if anyone can tell me what this plant is please. Love the colour and how it stands up on its own. Thank you.

    I have several. I love them. Great for awkward, damp shady spots. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Bother, another to have changed it’s name!  In my day it was called Cimicifuga racemosa 'Atropurpurea'.

    On a plus side, the new name is easier than the old one. 
    Not so Sedum Autumn Joy which is now 

    Hylotelephium (Herbstfreude Group) 'Herbstfreude'
