Unhappy cherry blossom

Hi all! I have this kojo no mai (cherry blossom) which is having a hard time atm. I’m thinking it’s too early for it to shed it’s leaves, and it’s been very hot last weeks however it was struggling a bit before these last couple of week. I’m unsure about what I can do to help it get back on it’s feet? Thanks in advance for any advice and help 😊🙏

I should think it is suffering from thirst, heat and possibly being pot bound. They are better in the ground but if you cannot manage that, I would move it into dappled shade during hot spells and keep it out of intense sunlight. I would also check if it needs a bigger pot.

Thank you for your reply posy. It was put in this pot a couple of months ago. So I don’t think it’s pot bound just yet. However I think you are very right about it suffering from thirst. I was under the impression it would thrive in a big pot? Also am I safe to fertilise still?

Yes, it should be ok in a pot but it will need more care because it depends on you. It shouldn't need feeding just yet because it is in fresh compost and I wouldn't feed it at all until it has had time to recover. They can be a bit temperamental. Good luck!
  • if it is struggling with water loss adding fertiliser at this time would add to its stress.
