Is this tree falling?

DedekindDedekind Posts: 172
Hello

I have a maple tree on the back of the garden which is covered in ivy. It seems to be leaning, but I dont know the background or history since I moved only a year ago.

Does it look like something to be worried about? Don't want it falling over the garage..  sorry if this is a stupid question!

Thanks

Is it in your garden?  If it was in mine I would be tempted to get a qualified tree surgeon to check it out.

Its in the back of the garage, not technically my garden but it is my land

Might be an investment to get an arboriculturist to check it out then.  Depends where you are but most of the UK seems to be getting more frequent and stronger storms.

It looks sound enough and the ivy is not likely to make much difference, my concern would be the angle it is leaning at, even with the shelter of other trees around it.

Thanks ill check it out. How much could that check cost?

Attaching some more pics in case it helps more.. it seems like initially the tree needed more light and it leaned but its quite an angle..

Was it leaning when you had a survey before you bought your property?
Ring round a few tree people for prices and check whether it has a TPO on it as if it has you can't touch it without applying to the  council for permission.
If has a TPO, tree protection order, then get a report from a tree surgeon with letters after their name as it carries more clout.
It will cost but will be cheaper than replacing a garage and maybe a car, then you would still gave yo pay for it to be removed.

Well the survey took the following picture and they said the text below. They either didn't look much or didn't think it was serious. It was leaning like that since at least February 2019 which was when the survey took place. We had quite some storms and winds since then (this is London by the way). I think for safety I will call a tree surgeon anyway to have a good inspection.

So your solicitor should have checked for TPO's as the surveyor suggested and passed that information on to you.  That text looks like the standard Homebuyer survey so not really much use as they will not have arboriculture experience.

Only a tree expert can advise whether you should be concerned so really its up to you @iguerb if it is worrying you.  If you do get a few estimates then you can decide how bothered you are,  good luck I hope it works out for you  :)
