Why is is my hedge dying

our hedge is around 4 years but one hedge plant seems to be dying. Started with the end of some branches looking a purple-brown colour but now it's spreading to the main trunk. It's been watered by the rain so isn't dry. No pesticides used. Help!

How much rain?  In some areas April and May were very dry so ground water levels will be way down and recent rains probably not enough to compensate.  It could well just be thirsty.

I would check for damage to the stems concerned and remove them anyway, back to the base.   I would also check for pests but, most of all, I would give the hedge a thoroughly good soaking from a hosepipe - 5 to 10 litres per plant.  Repeat every couple of days till the autumn rains set in - unless you get some biblical downpours - and then give the entire hedge a deep much of well-rotted manure after removing any weeds and grass at its base.

Do you know the name of the shrub? There looks like two plants growing there. The shrub that has the bronze/purple looking leaves looks like a Leucothoe shrub. There are many types, but quite a few do have colours like this.
