When to scarify

My back lawn needs scarifying. I work full time and have got a week off at the end of September and another at the end of October. What will be the best week for scarifying. I am in West Yorkshire and have an electric scarifier. I know a lot of it will depend on the weather. Thanks
I don't know why this has gone into plants, it didn't give an option as to what catagory to put it in.

    Doesn't matter @Pauline 7 - I don't think anyone notices what category anything's in  :)
I'd say September, because it'll hopefully give it a chance to recover a bit. It'll look rough for a while anyway.
I doubt it'll be worth sowing any seed though, if you have bare patches in it, but that can be done in spring. It'll give the existing grass a chance to spread and grow anyway  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thanks @Fairygirl, That was my thinking and there will definately be bare patches in it when it is done.

I'm not that far away in South Yorkshire, and late September is usually good for scarifying, if you get a dry day. Gives it time to recover, and time for seeding the thin patches if you want to, but you'd be surprised how quickly it recovers from a good scarifying, particularly if we get a mild and damp autumn (it'll look dreadful for a couple of weeks though, be warned!)
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
