How do I stop verbena rooting in my lawn?

I assume this is my verbena in a nearby raised bed, that is self-seeding. How can I prevent it? How do I remove the saplings from the lawn without making it worse? I’ve noticed hundreds of seeds already in the lawn. I don’t really want to chop down the Verbena though as the bees love it. Thanks!

Mow the grass a bit more often will take them down.

Yes - they won't stand up to regular mowing. The grass is quite long in that pic  :)

You can take the heads off before they set seed too.

  • Yes the lawn is quite long because we’d been away for two weeks, but it happens anyway. Please can you explain what you mean about removing the heads before they seed? How long I want to look out for? Just conscious of not removing things for the bees

Once the flowers fade and look a bit tatty and pale. Just snip those off with secateurs or scissors, back to a leaf joint.  :)
