Discoloured leaf

Evening all,

Thoughts on the yellowing of a lot of the leaves on my apple tree - it's not autumn already is it? :o

    It is here  :)
That can be caused by stress though - too much sun, or drought. If you're in a drier area, it's quite common. Trees /shrubs/plants in general will shed foliage in those circumstances.

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Our fruit trees in the orchard have been showing signs of autumn for some weeks now because of lack of rain. They have had some now for 3 days but probably too late but the surviving fruits might benefit.

Thanks folks. It's a bit confusing because the tree barely gets any direct sunlight and is in a spot that is always pretty wet. In fact I'd say waterlogging would be the most likely stress. Although, as I say, that's not unusual.

Water logging can also cause browning foliage, so that's quite possible  :)
Unfortunately, the signs of drought/waterlogging can be the same. If the tree is otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry too much.

@Fairygirl I'd have to say that's most likely but strange that I haven't noticed it before. Lockdown has meant I spend a lot more time staring at leaves I guess  :open_mouth:

The apple tree doesn't worry me as it was grown from a pip from an apple that daughter 2 ate years ago. The experiment to get them interested in gardening has failed though!
