The only time I ever got bit by a spider, it had somehow got into my dressing gown pocket. There was no swelling, and I'm very reactive to insect bites usually. UK spiders don't bite unless cornered and even then aren't very venomous. I expect in SA things are different!

  • Well What ever it was ,it’s healing well and won’t stop me from finishing the job of cleaning up to enjoy the garden.Although I think I will take the advice of insect repellent before I continue. Im not into chemical use anyway. I am sure I will learn a lot as I go along the English gardening path. Thanks for all your replies.

Enjoy your garden and don't worry about spiders. The vast majority of UK spiders are quite civilised - to humans anyway.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
