Courgettes

in Fruit & veg
Good afternoon all.
I planted three courgette plants in my veg box, all propogated from the same seed pack in the greenhouse, 1 of which has provided many fruits and is still going strong. The other 2 flowered but never produced any courgettes. The flowers just dropped off and nothing at all developed. I assumed these were infertile and just enjoyed the foliage whilst being slightly annoyed at choosing the wrong seedlings from the many which I had grown.
However, then out of the blue this (see picture) appeared, plus one other slightly smaller. They were never courgette shaped. I have had fruits that I have left on the plant too long in the past and they have developed into marrows but these didn't start courgette shaped. They just ballooned.
Can anyone shed some light on why this happened, are they still edible and what are they? Round courgettes, marrows or just mutant!!!
Many thanks in advance.
