60 x 60 plant pots.

Hi,
Does anyone know of reasonably priced planters?
Living in London, prices seem to be extortionate.
Want something roughly that size for roses.
Thanks in advance.

    That size are costly.
My son-in-law made some planters from 60cm square paving slabs. No bottom allows better drainage but put some landscape fabric at the bottom.  He used one of those adhesives you get in a tube, and put a thin wooden batten frame around the top and bottom.

The paving slabs can be painted if you prefer. You might find someone giving some away on Freecycle

You can find the most basic 60cm plastic pots from £10 online, nicer ones between £20 and £40, whisky half-barrels from £30. But the problem is finding something deep enough. The usual 60cm pots are often only 35-40cm deep.
Really nice pots (terracotta and similar) cost a fortune in that size everywhere.
Wooden planters are a good solution and if you use treated wood, paint them and line them, they can last up to 10 years.

XL tub trugs are close to those dimensions. Lots of colours, very tough, convenient handles and cost c. £20. You’d have to drill drainage holes.

  • Hi ,

Thank you for your replies .
The big sizes are so expensive . I had thought of getting a friend who has made his own raised beds to make some but was worried that wood wouldn't last long enough . Still as we're good at maintance they may be fine .
I'd never thought of the slab idea but it sounds interesting definitely .
I did wonder about the xl trugs when I saw them in a builders merchants .
I'll have to mull it over .

Thanks again everyone for your ideas. It's much appreciated .
