Not what's on the packet

Several times I have bought bulbs or seeds where the end result is not the same as shown on the packet. This time its Rudbekia from seed. I wonder if its my soil that has affected the colour. I was hoping for a nice cherry red. This is the packet



And this us how they turned out, both pictures from the same plant. 



Anyone experienced the same?

    I sowed cosmos dwarf sonata mixed.
    I got about 30 plants - every one is the same shade of pink. They were also from T&M

    @Pete.8.   So they were the colour you expected and the same as on the packet?

    I was expecting red, pinks and white as on the packet.
    All I got was a mid-pink - all of them

    I wouldn’t have T&M seeds, my mum and dad were great seed growers for many years and wouldn’t touch them. 
    I have better success with 99p packets from eBay, a couple of very good seed providers there. 
    I’ve  grown those Cherry Brandy, they were just like your packet.

    My white fragrant nicotiana came out all pink and not fragrant. All i got from t&m on complaining is refund of seed packet 🙄

    The wrong seed used to be a very rare event in the past, but worryingly it seems to be more common recently. Sadly many of the big name companies do not grow in the uk anymore they buy from bulk growers and simply put the seed in their own packets. We had some foxgloves (free seed with GW) they were supposed to be salmon pink, they have come out as standard wild type colour.

    I have had pretty good luck with Mr Fothergills and Johnsons, of the big seed companies. Mind you, barely any of my Johnsons cosmos flowered, but I suspect that's the fault of my garden.

    Thanks all for your comments. It is a bit disappointing and especially if trying to keep to a colour scheme. 

    @Lyn. Interesting that your seeds of the cherry brandy were not right either. I think i will avoid T & M from now on.

    I bought some dahlias to grow for a friend.. Lindas baby. (Her daughter had a baby this spring). Instead of a pink pompom type they appear to be purple gem cactus type. . They were in a labelled packet from a garden centre, so must have been mixed up at the bulb merchants. (Taylors)

    Mine were right, exactly like the picture in your packet.  They weren’t T&M.
