Cauliflower Pests

Hi - new to this forum, my first post.  I have being growing Cauliflower this year for the first time in about 13 years.  The curds are showing nicely, with one about ready to crop.  I noticed this evening that a couple of them had a number of what looked like eggs; black/green, round about 1mm diameter and gather in groups or clump.  When picked off they were very mushy.  Most however were so tight to the lower part of the curds that cant be reached without damaging the guard leaves  Does anyone know what they are please? Furthermore how to I get rid of them and are they harmful to the plant?  thanks

Either squash them or swish them off with a hosepipe. probably butterfly eggs, which will hatch into caterpillars and eat up all your hard work.
  • i forgot to mentioned that they have been grown under mesh for the last month.  they look a bit big for butterfly eggs, certainly not Cabbage White's
