Lemon Thyme didn't flower this year

Any ideas why? My two new ones flowered and the bees are all over them constantly.

The lemon thyme I bought last year flowered most of last summer but not a peep out of it this year. It's lovely and luscious but no gifts for the bees.

'lovely and luscious' is probably the reason   :)

They do best in poorer conditions, so if it's been fed, or is in a richer soil/compost, that could be why.

    D*mn it!

Treat herbs like I don't care about them?  Should I be trimming my three thymes soon or do I do that next spring?  I read somewhere that you don't need to water thyme once established....is this true or do they need SOME?

I only remove the spent flowers on thyme, nothing much else.
Most Mediterranean herbs need very little, or no, watering once established - but the key factor is 'once established'. Many folk make the mistake of thinking they need no watering at all, and that's where the plants struggle, whether it's lavender, rosemary or any other Med. herb, because they shove them in the ground and expect them to just grow. Doesn't work.
I used to have thyme and a couple of other things planted into the ground in a a previous garden. They were never watered - the sky did that. Never fed.
Again- in a pot, it's different. They still need watered, but they need to be in nice free draining, gritty soil. I often grow in pots because a lot of these herbs need protection here over winter, but they don't get cossetted.

Cheers.  I've kinda got it all right with them. They're in the right soil and it's gritty and drains well.  The lavenders and other two thymes have all flowered really well this year just not the lemon one (or the lemon balm weirdly).  I'll pop out and have a word with the two lemons.

    Thank you.
