Pear leaf problems

I have a recently espaliered pear tree growing against a wall trained along some wires. It hasnt flowered this year but I read that this is normal when a fruit tree has been pruned quite hard. However in the last week the leaves have started to discololour badly and are falling off. There is no visible damage to the tree as far as I can see but I know that there is an infection of some type happening. I have enclosed a pic of the leaves and hopefully someone will know what’s going on with the tree. The tree has been watered steadily since planting . Thanks .

I assume you have been giving deep watering as part of your 'regular watering'?  Like soaking slowly with multiple buckets of water or a hose pipe when there hasn't been sufficient soaking rain?

  • Yes the soil is watered deeply every week at an even rate, the weather hasnt been particularly hot or dry or very wet even, the leaves seemed healthy a week ago. I have another pear close by which is in perfect health and fruiting well.
