Help!... lawn advice

Hi All,

Some background: we have lived in the same property for more than 30 years, this year is the worst the lawn has ever been! I scarified the lawn well in the spring, just before the long dry spell. For various reasons, I was unable to water the lawn during that spell. We have self-heal weed growing which I am attempting to get rid of (see pictures). My question is: what can I do to bring the lawn back to life, some sort of lushness.

I am considering using Evergreen 4-in-1 to see if that will help, I was wondering if I can add some lawn seed to the 4-in-1 mix to try and repair the bald patches (again, see pics.).

Really at a loss as what to do now (Mid Aug., very little rain, temp. currently circa 26 and set to last a few more days...).

Any help, advise would be much appreciated...

I think the main problem is the hot weather, and all our lawns are suffering.  It's better not to mow the lawn so short in hot weather as the roots get scorched.
I certainly wouldn't apply any treatment in this hot weather ... I would leave it until mid to late September, certainly when the weather is cooler and damper, and then use a lawn treatment especially formulated for use in the autumn.

It needs rain - it's that simple ,and that complicated if you don't get any.

Certainly don't use anything on it, and never mix seed with any of those treatments. The weedkilling part will prevent germination  :)
As @Dovefromabove says - keep it longer during long dry spells, and wait until you get some autumn rain.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
