Hydrangea cuttings

Hello everyone,

My hydrangea has finally got stems without any flowers which means I can propagate. Yesterday I took four cuttings and there in gritty compost with poly bags over the top. There in the unheated greenhouse. I would like to no is this the correct place for them to be until they start rooting??
Thanks

  • I took 2 from my hydrangea following Monty's advice on GW. Put them in pure perlite and like you, kept them in the greenhouse inside plastic bags.  They worked fine.
Make sure they are out of direct sun though and keep the perlite/compost moist.  I potted them on into gp compost a couple of weeks ago (after about 1 month in the perlite) they had formed roots and they are now doing well in the cold frame.

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think...

@Learningslowly thanks for that! So after I've got established roots I will pot on individually. Then would I keep that in the greenhouse over winter to plant out in spring?

I wouldn't put them in a greenhouse, far too hot. Keep them somewhere cool and shady.
