Potato plant leaves

BigladBiglad Posts: 3,265
Evening folks. Some of the leaves on one of my King Edward potato plants are a bit discoloured. Anybody know what is causing this?

I’d put that down to sun scorch. Not a lot you can do about that tho’. Shouldn’t do any harm at this stage of play. 🥔

Hmm - I'd guessed that as an option but didn't think it had been that glorious oop norf recently  ;)

Thinking about it, that plant does get more sun than anything else in the garden, including the other spuds! It's only on a few leaves and, otherwise, the plant looks in good health.

    Thanks d-fab

Amounts of sun are all relative @Biglad .., if you and your plants aren’t used to it and you’ve not been slathered with Amber Solaire, then it won’t  take a lot of sun to cause sunburn ☀️ 🏖

Don't worry d-fab - I'm well and truly weathered. No chance of any sun scorch on my foliage!  :D

The potato plant, on the other hand, was planted after our magnificent May so could well have been startled by the recent appearance of that big hot thing in the sky.

I'll shift it to a more shaded spot in the morning.

I'm all out of spud brollies so I've shifted the container so that it gets less direct sunlight. Bloomin' heavy mind - must be loads of tatties hidden in there!

  • A lot of my main crop are ready to lift already. This weather is insane.

Apparently KEs normally take 20-22wks. Despite the size of the foliage on this plant, they've only been in 9 wks so I think I've got a wait yet.
