Problem with swede

Can anyone tell me what’s wrong with this swede? We dug it up as the smell of swede was overpowering but clearly there is an issue with it. Thanks

    It has probably been attacked by either root flies or slugs, and then rot has set in. Not a lot you can do apart from use insect-proof netting or, in the case of slugs, deal with them in the usual ways.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
