Wild Gentian? Can anyone confirm please?

Posts

  • It is growing on the roadside near my home. Will be mowed down when they cut the grass so can I take a plant  up and put in my garden to save it?

It’s difficult to tell from your photos, but I think it would be unlawful to dig it up. I’m sure someone with more knowledge on this will be along soon.

Another vote here for Echium vulgare ... flowers look sort of tubular with longish stamens, whereas gentians have five distinct petals with shorter stamens.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Thank you yes it is Echium Vulgare thank you. It’s such a vivid blue and I hadn’t seen any like it anywhere!!
I will hopefully get some seeds from it then!!!
