Old fashioned Weigela - diseased?

Hi we have a lovely Old Fashioned Weigela in a container, it’s flowered all summer but has started dying the leaves are covered in what looks like cobwebs and the leaves are dropping. We sprayed it with bug killer but it hasn’t covered. Any advise would be great.

The cobwebs may indicate spider mites.
Some info here may help you decide if that's the problem-

I know yours is outside in a pot, but it still applies.
The plant looks ok, so hopefully it'll pull through with some tlc.
Maybe move it somewhere shady for a while and ensure the compost doesn't dry out
