Dahlia

My dahlia which had one shoot has  grown to about 10 inch.it is practically away from tuber trod on by one of the  dogs. Any suggestions  please .i thought of slicing the only  attached  piece  with a bit of the tuber as in early spring.

    I'd leave it alone in case you cause more damage.
