For the last couple of years my courgettes fail. I get flowers but only male or female at different times. Is there a way of tricking a mix of both forming?
I always grow at least 2 plants which greatly increases the chances of one having an open male when the other has an open female. If you don't have the space for more than one plant, try taking off a male flower just as it begins to open and putting it in a sealed plastic bag in the fridge. If a female opens within a few days the pollen may still be viable. Worth a try I would have thought.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
I have two plants but of different variety. However neither seems to have any female flowers on the horizon. Did take some pollen the other day on a cotton bud but not been able to use it. Might try what you suggested when I spot a female flower forming
