Long grass tips

JoeXJoeX Posts: 1,783
So my long grass squares just havent grown lush like they did last year.  Opportunity missed.

What can I do to get long lush grass that goes dry and all harvesty next year?

The one bit that grew was burnt to ash last year, so Im happy to scorch it or cover it in ash (when?) if that helps?

Or Im happy to lift it and reseed with whatever grass that is in the righthand picture?

Or lift now and put in “ornamenral grasses”?

Thanks all,

Joe

The plant on the right is wheat.

The grass isn't growing 'lush' because it's perennial grass ... now it's in its second year it will grow flower spikes and seeds like a haymeadow does ... only if you keep mowing it will it produce a thick lush sward.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Ahah, didnt think of that. I must have a patch that is out of synch with the rest of the perennial grass then.

So maybe Ill try sowing “winter wheat” in autumn and see how that goes for next spring.

Any votes for putting in ornamental grasses instead?
