Strawberries White inside?

Afternoon All,

OK maybe a really beginners think to ask!

Been having a go at growing some different fruit and veg this year for the first time - upgrading from just tomatoes!

Anyway I'd wanted to grow some strawberries and I couldn't seem to find any early in the year, then the covid lock-down happened. Anyway saw some Alpine Reds at the local garden centre when things started to open again and got two. In hanging baskets in a greenhouse and seem to have been growing well and lots of fruit coming along, some of which look ready for picking. Took one to 'test' and although lovely and red outside they are white inside?

So, I hadn't really done any research on the type as they were a spur of the moment buy, but since then I can't seem to find conformation either way, but I am assuming they should be red inside? I know sounding like a complete beginner here!!

They are about 2cm in length and there is a lovely smell of strawberries. However am I missing something here? Never grown strawberries before.

Any advice greatly received,

Guy

What did it taste like? Some strawberry varieties are white inside. Keep tasting until you can tell what a ripe one looks like.

The varieties sold in supermarkets are rarely red inside. I would be on the lookout for an old variety.  New varieties are often developed to give a heavy crop but that is often paid for by not having the best texture and flavour.

Alpine strawberries are different from regular strawberries. Each berry is usually much smaller, still looks a bit wilted when ripe, but as you are discovering, the scent (and hopefully the flavour) are so much more. I find shop bought strawberries have lots of juice, but nowhere near the flavour.

    Thanks for the feedback.
Tack - I haven't yet tasted just in case it was suggested there was something 'wrong' but will have a go and let you know.

My "wild" strawberries are white inside so I suspect it's normal for the variety you have.
