John innes number 3 mature plant compost

Hi guys I’ve just been garden centre and all they have is John innes Number 3 mature plant compost I’m planting some shrubs later on today will that be ok to use

    Seems like everyone has gone mad on gardening there selling out of everything 3 week wait for mulch lol

    Are you planting in containers or in the ground?

    If in containers I'd probably add a few handfuls of ordinary multi-purpose compost or homemade garden compost if available, just to lighten it a bit.

    It’s only a grown on hydrangea and butterfly bush both in 3.6 litre pots

    Unless your soil is very poor and lacking in humus then you do not really need any Potting compost . All I ever do is to mix in some stuff from my compost heap with the back fill soil, plus a sprinkling of Bone meal and maybe some Growmore. My soil is pretty poor , but that seems to be enough for everything we have planted here.

    I agree ... I’d only use bought in potting compost if the garden soil was poor.

    This garden soil is bad it’s very stoney and dry The person who had the house before neglected the garden
