What type of fig tree is this?

Hi, this is just out of interest really, but I was wondering if anyone knew what type of figs these are?
We inherited the tree with the house, it's pretty big - I've no idea how old it could be.

Any ideas would be great! Thanks

  • Very envious. Our brown turkey fig has given superb fruit for many years but now is sulking. We had early frosts and then the warm weather with very little rain....it didn't like that.
As to your variety it doesn't look like brown turkey fruit as they do go very brown when ripe.
Difficult to say but maybe a green fig.
Do enjoy eating them and if a glut you can make a fabulous fig compote to eat through the winter.
  • Thank you, yes by the time the fruit on our is dark they are way over. I was confused the first year we moved in as I hadn't really seen green figs before.

This year the tree has gone crazy! Lots of ripening figs and babies. We're in the West Country and have had quite a bit of rain this year along with the warm weather, so it seems happier than usual. I will definitely be making some compote and possibly pickling a few to have with cheese.

I hope yours recovers next year :)
  • We are also in the West Country and have had little rain! The leaves have been very shrivelled and we had for the first time in 20 years had to give it a good saok. Tiny ones are developing now but probably too late to come to edible.
    Again very envious. Enjoy
