Haha, this thread is really bringing back my youth. I still remember the excitement of going from 28.8k to 56k........ And constantly screaming at my mum to "get off the line, I'm on the internet!!"
Do you remember the mating signals while you waited to get on the internet and then they charged you per minute and no one could phone you while you were on the net? And then came Freeserve. Whatever happened to them?
Ahh, the sweet song of a US robotics 14k4 modem carrier signal, lulling you to sleep.

(extra points for anyone correctly identifying that!)
I remember acoustic couplers and BBS before the internet really became a thing in the 90s.

@Kili wins the points! Those were the days, when you had to manually type out ATDT and the phone number to call.
It was an improvement over using the handset to call, see if the other end answered, and if so quickly slapping it into the cradle to try and carrier connect...
Which reminds me of loading and saving data and software to cassette tape, and having to fast forward a tape to the right time code to find the software you want....
IMHO. These TV programs feature more on the presenter than the plant and it's inportance in the program. Yes for the average gardener all of what is shown might be great, but in reallity it's little different to a seedsnans or plantmans catalogue.
Certain presenters tend to prance around like fairies. Peobably much of the responsibility lies with the directors etc. Many of which haven't the slightest idea about gardening.
Being a new gardener I find the programme a feed of knowledge and ideas. Since the lockdown our garden has changed so much and we now both routinely watch the show and my wife got me a subscription to the magazine for my birthday. Early days and learning lots.
