White fly larvae resistant to pesticide

I have persistent white fly larvae problem (they never reach hatching stage) on my house plants.

I have treated the plants with insecticidal soap and with pesticide which seems to do the job for a few days but the larvae return.

I have also assembled a sticky yellow trap next to the plants to catch any other flies which seems to be effective.

Has anyone got any advice on how to manage the white fly larvae?

I'm at the end of my tether- thank you in advance!

Sometimes, it helps to put them outside for a while. You can give them a squirt with the hose  now and again too.
You also need to clean the area that you keep your plants in as they can hide in cracks and crevices. Use a mild bleach and washing up liquid solution if it won't damage anything.

Put all the plants in the bath or shower and rinse them completely on both sides of the leaves and stems and drench the compost and let it drain.

Meanwhile, clean the areas where you have them - shelves, windowsills etc - and leave them bare for a week or two.

I have all my houseplants outside at the mo, on a terrace where there is plenty of light but no direct sun on the ones that can't cope with it and just early morning or late evening sun for the others.   It's jolly hot here so they are watered daily from the hose pipe with a spray nozzle along with all my fuchsias and hostas in pots.   I rinse off the foliage too every few days to remove any dust.   They love it.

I never thought of white fly having larvae I just assumed they were like green and black fly, born up and running,  you learn something everyday.

  • Yes the larvae are a good way to spot an infestation on their way!
