As no-one else has responded, Simon, beans of all sorts need water which could be the problem.  Normal watering will help, but I always try to get the water BELOW the plants so that it can be accessed by the plant as it rises to the surface in the normal way.  I have a really chunky crowbar that I use to make holes, before filling them with water from my can.  If, by chance, your beans are in pots or other containers, I'd look for some sort of tray in which to stand them so that, again, the tray can be filled with water to capillarise up.  By scouting around, you can make trays out of other things.  For standing trays of seedlings in, I made an ideal one from an old fridge door by scraping all the foam insulation out.

I agree with Nick they do need plenty of water and feeding with tomato food,I also use seaweed extract as well ,mine get watered every other day and fed once a week the same with the runner beans.
  • Many thanks guys, the beans are in pots, so I will find an old container to stand them in and water from below. 🙂
