Rambling rose

I planted a bare root rambling rose last autumn from a well known rose grower following all the instructions.
It was growing well and buds appeared in June ,then one morning during a very hot spell the buds disappeared and the rose has stopped growing it hasn't moved since , any ideas ? it looks healthy .

Hi and welcome to the forum @mary.hall02APMqc_kW 😊

Is your rose being regularly and generously watered? The soil near the foot of a wall can be much dryer than elsewhere in a garden.

  • Thanks for your reply yes I am watering often, it is against a fence which is in front of a conifer hedge .

If there’s a conifer hedge behind the fence it may need a huge amount of water ... I would give it at least a bucket full, poured slowly so that it really soaks in, every other day ... from now until mid September.
    Is it having that much?

  • Ok I thought the conifer could be causing a problem, I am watering but probably not as much as you suggest I will give it a try thankyou.

It’s really hard to overwater a plant that’s in the ground so don’t worry about it. An organic mulch will help improve the condition of the soil and also help keep the moisture in the soil ... conifers are greedy as well as thirsty.

Plenty of tlc for the first two or three years to get it established and it’ll be fine ... pretty much the same as we treat sons 😉
