Dobies say that are hardy down to -6 to -10C (so similar to apricots in being more tender than plums), so I guess that depends on what sort of winter temps you get in your particular location.

Thank you for the info. I am guessing that it could be fleeced over winter like i do for my peach.The site that i am looking at is quite protected and south facing..worth the risk do you think? or waste of money?

Yes, or grow in a large pot and move to a shed etc. during any freezing spells. If you are high up, it might be a bit more of a lottery, especially with climate change causing all sorts of unusual weather patterns, such as 'the beast from the east'.
