Installing a water butt at a distance from the downpipe

I am thinking of installing a water butt in our garden.  However, it would not be possible to place the butt itself next to the downpipe from the guttering due to obstructions.

Does anyone know if/how I could channel the water approximately 5m from the downpipe and around a corner to the closest place where I could put the butt?

Thankyou

I have one that's round a corner but nowhere near as far as 5m. The pipe that comes with the diverted kits isn't that long so you might have to get creative with plumbing pipe or something.

Sorry, the pic has come out huge.

For a long time I had a water butt round the back of the garage. The down pipe was round the corner and down the side at the front of the garage (probably a total of 8m away).

We made it work by putting the rain water diverter high up in the down pipe and connecting it (with a 6" length of flexible pipe) to a length of 1" diameter rigid pipe attached to the side and back wall with brackets. The rigid pipe had a good fall on it (about 15" total). At the water butt end a 1m length of flexible pipe (washing machine hose!) fed into the rain butt.

    Worked very well🙂

  • hi old thread, we bought a rainpod last year and have 4 water butts 18m from the house and we get all the water from the pod or butts

It's really good to know that this all works. I will probably put a third rain butt in during the spring. Winter is for dreaming.
