Star jasmine would be ok in a large pot for couple of years. Just remember to water even in rainy day.  After few years you can replace it.

Sweetpeas or nasurtiums are good choices too.

  • I was really torn between clematis and star jasmine, but as the jasmine is evergreen, I’ve gone for that.  Thanks for your help everyone 😃

If you want ideas for a rose, what about a patio climber like 'Open Arms'? Pollinator-friendly and fragrant.
Or you could grow a shrub rose as a small climber.

Hi edhelka, you mentioned the word ‘Rose 😱. I already have ‘Open Arms’, planted a few months ago to go over my shed ... I though it would be too tall for the trellis?  I like the idea of a shrub as a climber .... any suggestions?

Thunbergia. Black eyed Susie. Comes in all colours from deep rusty red through to yellow. Its an annual . I've found the yellow to be most vigorous, but I prefer the deep colous. Also, it doesn't attract black fly in the way nasturtium does.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    Always a bonus @B3 👍

I think you would regret choosing star jasmine. It's slow to get started then gets very vigorous and would soon swamp your space. Added to which the flowers are tiny (although very fragrant) and don't last for long.

I’m having second thoughts @Lizzie27. I’ve now got my heart set on a patio climber rose but need some suggestions 🤷‍♀️

I think that would be a much better choice but havn't grown one so can't advise. Have a search on the plant finder on the GW website.
