Big hole dug in garden border

Hello there, can anyone please help identify what animal would have dug a large hole like this in the border?

Not sure but could you send it my way - I've got a border that needs digging up!

    That’s my thought @lyn .... badger 🦡

  • Thank you @Lyn and @Dovefromabove I’ll definitely be getting a wildlife camera to check. How do you keep them out and from digging holes like that? @Biglad will definitely want to send it your way and out of my garden 😆

I wouldn’t tell anyone you want to get rid of it,  they’re protected, if it wants to live in your garden, it may have too!

There’s not a lot that’ll obstruct a determined badger ... they use electric fences at Minsmere to keep them away from ground nesting birds.

It is indeed a sin to obstruct a badger, but if you should, coincidentally, decide to replace your fence you need a strong metal mesh, preferably sunk into the ground by several inches and braced with uprights to prevent movement. It doesn't have to be high because they don't climb much and cannot jump like a fox.
