Star Anise

Has anyone successfully grown Star Anise from seed in the UK, please?
I planted some seeds about 6 weeks ago - they have done nothing ... I dug them up last week 😳🙄 and they look no different than when I sowed them.
I have now put them into water.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Whether you are growing the ornamental variety or the culinary they take time, patience and a lot of heat. I have never managed to raise them from seed as they germinate best when the seed is fresh apparently.

They need a pretty constant 70F to germinate so a heat mat or propagator is essential and they are very fussy as they grow I believe. Sorry not much help  :)  I couldn't be bothered, bit 'hot house' for me.

I've not tried  growing it ... I don't think we have the climate here in East Anglia ... we're right on the edge of the required USDA hardiness zone  ... also this site says it takes about 6 years before it's mature enough to produce flower and seed, and will be between 5m - 10m tall.  Hope you've got the space and are in it for the long haul

I do love cooking with it, but I think I'll stick to buying mine from the spice stall on Norwich market.  B)
