Holes in my Bell Peppers

Firstly my pepper plants look great, growing in the Polly Tunnel, plenty of good leaf and a good crop, but some not all I’ve notice have a small hole in about 3 to 4mm, others that I found in a later stage are rotting. When cut open I’ve found no bugs apart from one with three or four small wood lice.
Wood lice I believe would prey on veg starting to rot not necessarily the cause.
Any ideas please?

    Possibly slugs or snails?
    A photo may help.

I had the same problem a few years back I stopped growing them,I grow the long ones now the yield is better with less trouble.I sent a picture to Beechgrove garden and the said it could be to do with a insect laying their eggs in the blossom then a grub hatches out inside the fruit and burrows it self out,I can't remember the name of the insect, maybe someone else will help you.
  • Thank very much for that, as I say I can’t find anything inside the fruit. But I’ve just been out tonight and found four or five slugs on the peppers. Could be. But again thanks for your comment. It’s just so annoying to get the quantity and quality of fruit just to see it rot in front of you. Thanks Jamie
  • Hello

Reading yours posts about peppers I'm wondering whether you can help me please. I love my gardening albeit not very good as still learning about different things to grow! I have the usual beetroot, lettuce and tomatoes on the go and am trying marrow and pumpkin, which seem to be doing ok at the mo - all quite exciting. I've just chopped up some peppers and saved some of the seeds from them. Has anyone had a successful yield from using the seeds direct from the peppers or is it better to buy them? I look forward to your advice 😊
  • Hi, I’m afraid I can’t help you with that one, I’ve only ever grown from bought seed, but chatting to other people they have grown all sorts of things from the fruit and veg they’ve grown, so give it a go, I think I may have a go. Best of luck.

Sometimes planting saved seeds from shop bought peppers is successful, but often the fruit in shops has been harvested before the seeds are ripe enough to be viable.
You can try them, but now  it’s too late in the season to sow peppers and get them to fruit unless you have a heated greenhouse.

  • Ahhh thank you for your replies 😊 I've planted some just to see what happens to be honest. Will let you know. Thanks again
  • Yes they grow fine for me.
