Phlox cuttings and Cannas

When and how is the best time to take phlox cuttings(the tall growing types).Also, when and how is the best time etc to divide Cannas which I keep in pots?

    For the phlox you can take root cuttings while they're dormant, January/February. https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=407
    I haven't grown cannas but my gut feeling would be to divide in spring before they start into growth.
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

    The RHS advises dividing canna rhizomes in spring and you can also try sowing seed but they won't come true to the parent.   Might get something interesting tho.

    Yes divide the cannas in spring, you don't want wounds on the overwintering tubers which could become infected. (You will probably have plenty of canna tubers to give away to friends when you come to divide them!)
