Spindly cherry

I have a cherry which flowers beautifully in May, the problem is that it was engulfed in bindweed one season and this stripped the stems of leaves.  TheY are bare apart from at the ends. I cut about half of the stems back drastically hoping the new ones would be leafy.  I’m still waiting.  What advice would you give to e
ncourage the plant to become fuller?

I think we need to see a photo of the whole tree, if you could attach one?

Not sure it qualifies as a tree!

It looks very shaded.. can you prune back the other tree a bit to give it more light?

It’s growing behind the garage but a lot of the foliage you see that stops the light is ivy which I’m Currently chopping back.

I agree and would also remove those two low branches leaning forward so it can concentrate on growing the branches on the main trunk.  You can prune now when it is dry but don't wait too long or you risk it getting Silver Leaf disease.  If you decide to do that, don't do any more pruning until next summer, when you can see how it has responded.
