Transplanting a Hardy Hibiscus

I am digging up an Hibiscus Blue Bird, in full flower at completely the wrong time of the year. I want to help it survive what I know will be very stressful move for the plant. I have to dig it up as I am moving and I know the new owners plan to pave or deck most of my beautiful garden.
Should I prune it down/cut off the flowers and buds? If I do prune it how much should I cut off.

  • Thankyou for your comment. It is about 4 years old. I have dug it up and got most of the roots. It is planted in a large tub for the move and I have cut about 2/3 off each branch. It has been in the tub for a couple of days now and seems to be ok. There was initial drooping of the leaves, so I trimmed it some more and now it is looking much brighter. So I have high hopes for it.
