Courgette seeds from Thompson & Morgan
in Fruit & veg
Last week my wife, a friend and I were laid low with severe diarrhoea after eating minuscule amounts of courgette grown from T & M seeds. We stopped eating the courgette because they had a very bitter tasteIt seems that they, Unwins and Fothergills knew about the problem but it hasn't been widely publicised. Unhelpfully T&M are advising me to 'lick' courgettes before eating them and to reject any that taste bitter. The T&M batch number (or possibly one of the affected batches) is 296195. Has anyone else suffered from this and if you can pleases share what your supplier is doing about it.

Here's a link with other batch numbers.

I contacted them to advise them and suggest that they improved their recall notification. They didn't give the impression they were particularly concerned and I wasn't offered a replacement or refund. Eventually after a number of emails, they agreed I should be refunded, and then changed their mind again! So I returned them to my local garden centre who refunded me immediately.
They hadn't heard of T&M's pathetic attempt at recall and when a manager appeared, he told me that he had suffered the same thing with these seeds.
A web search for toxic courgettes reveals a recall from Mr Fothergill but nothing from T&M. If something is not done NOW, others will undoubtedly suffer the same unpleasant consequences.
T&M's Customer Care, as they profess to call it, doesn't!
I have never come across such abysmally poor customer service and they won't be getting any more custom from me.
