Contorted Robhina twisty baby

looking for some advice on our contorted robhina. Bought it as a twig about a foot high about 3 years ago and planted it straight in the ground. We have good soil but chalky. It has grown loads and is now a magnificent bushy tree about 5ft high and probably the same wide. I have noticed however that in the last few weeks a lot of the leaves, particularly on the underside of branches are going yellow. It is deciduous but July seems a bit early for leaves to turn. I have a leak in my hose pipe and when watering the garden I tend to put the leak at the base of the tree to give it extra water. Maybe I have over watered it? Anyone any experience with these trees?
