what's causing gold flecks on tomatoes?

We're growing several different types of tomato plants, and pretty much all the tomatoes are covered in gold flecks (see attached photos). The stems are also covered in a golden, pollen-like substance. We can't find anything online indicating what this might be. Does anyone have any ideas?

One possibility is spider mite. You'll need a magnifying glass to see them but if there is any evidence of fine webbing, especially on growing tips then they might be the culprit.
