hi can anyone tell me what this is on my apple tree?

    Looks like woolly aphid to me

    Yes, woolly aphid - physical removal with a stiff brush and some soapy water will get rid of them - you may need to repeat as they are rather well protected by their waxy coating which is impervious to insecticides.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
